Under the supervision of the Safety Department, the Safety Co-Op position offers the diversity and hands on training needed to become an effective, well rounded safety professional by exposure to both technical and administrative duties, working with all departments on a variety of safety related initiatives and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Co-Op will learn, maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and processes. Recommend processes and safety products that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards. Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. Investigate industrial incidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures. Assist in or perform safety orientation and training. Conduct site audits, maintain files and records, complete OSHA 300 logs, and other recordkeeping as required. Review plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to determine safety requirements have been met. Review findings from accident investigations and facility inspections; conduct audits to ensure corrective actions are in place and being followed; report findings. Assist with identification and assessment of workplace hazards; develop JSAs and recommend/implement controls to eliminate or reduce risks associated with any hazards. Review and develop safety SOPs.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s level (or higher) degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Must be at least 20 years of age at time of start date
  • Must be eligible and authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able and willing to travel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with very strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, yet self-starting and results-oriented
  • A willingness to travel throughout the facility and interact with employees to learn each and every job
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Maneuver in the office and plant floor
  • Walk, stand, sit for extended periods of time
  • Climb stairs and ladders
  • Operate computer and other office productivity equipment
  • Observe and assess work practices and exchange accurate information with others
  • This is a co-op opportunity of 40 hours per week for a fixed period of time
